With 2013 about to expire, we will all soon turn our focus to the promise of the new year. But before we do, let's take a few minutes to discuss the biggest stories of 2013 - those that directly impacted the P&C Insurance industry. Of course, any discussion of this sort is subjective, and a matter of personal opinion. In my humble opinion, we have to include the impact of the Affordable Care Act rollout. P&C companies are directly impacted by employer requirements to provide federally mandated coverages that changed their employee benefits. P&C professionals were impacted by changes in their coverage. And many P&C companies are subsidiaries of health carriers that were directly impacted by the law. So certainly this topic has to be in the discussion of 2013's biggest stories. But you may think other stories and events had a larger impact on our industry in 2013. What about the Flood Insurance fiasco in Congress? The Government Shutdown? The surprisingly quiet hurricane season that baffled the forecasters? GEICO surpassing Allstate as the #2 auto insurer? Or something else? Join the conversation and tell us what you think.
